The Red Emperor is an A0-sized paper cutting work telling how the Emperor Qin Shi Huang drafted half a million workers to build the Great Wall of China in order to hold off the barbarian Xiongnu tribe, along with how he employed seven hundred thousand soldiers to build his palace and mausoleum. I told the Emperor’s cruelty in a simple manner by comparing each bodily organ to military training, starting from selection of infants into the palace (body), to producing soldiers to fight the Xiongnu. From a distance, the work will look like a Chinese woman. I use paper cutting technique and red paper because I learned about its significance and ties with China while living there as an exchange high-school student, and I would like to conserve it.
